Dietary fiber, an important part of a healthy diet, can be used to help regulate your child’s bowels. Here you will find a list of foods that can either soften your child’s bowel movements or firm them up. Foods to get a gut moving

  • Whole grains: wheat, bulgar, barley, whole-wheat flour, bran and buckwheat
  • Vegetables: beans, carrots, peas, yams, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, turnips, parsnips and rutabagas
  • Fruits: berries, raisins, prunes, apricots and dried fruits

Foods to Stop You Up

  • Fats: butter, oil, cheese, fried foods and peanut butter
  • Grains: rice, oatmeal, toast and white bread
  • Fruits: bananas, applesauce, apples and citrus fruits
  • Vegetables: potatoes, spinach and tomatoes
